Jeffrey D. Sachs delivered the keynote address on Thursday, October 11, 2007, for Union Theological Seminary's Bonhoeffer Lectures "Ending Poverty: World Poverty and Moral Responsibility."

Dr. Sachs is the director of The Earth Institute, Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development, and Professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University. From 2002 to 2006, he was director of the UN Millennium Project and special advisor to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the Millennium Development Goals, the internationally agreed goals to reduce extreme poverty, disease, and hunger by the year 2015. He is currently special advisor to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

The Bonhoeffer Lectures program is part of the German-American lecture and academic exchange established at Union in 1993. The lectures alternate between the United States and Germany and focus on public and ethical issues that Dietrich Bonhoeffer addressed or would have addressed.
