Union Podcast Tutorials Part I:
A Podcast Explained

What is a podcast?

Simple answer: a podcast is what you get when you cross audio content with a website.

A more specific answer would say that a podcast is what you get when you cross a digital audio file with a website feed.

An even more in depth answer, might cover the types of digital audio files used (Mp3, AAC, WAV, etc.) with a discussion on how something called RSS (Rich Site Summary,) can syndicate web content.

However, for our purposes, all you need to know is that a podcast is very much like a broadcast, except instead of using radio or television frequencies to transmit our program, we use the internet, that pesky RSS feed, and your computer.

Oh, there's one more thing you need to know, how to subscribe to our podcast.

Subscribe? How much does it cost

This is one of the best things about podcasting. It's completely free!

Great! How do I subscribe?

You need 3 things to subscribe to our Podcast

1. A computer that's connected to the internet.

2. Speakers connected to your computer, and turned on.

3. An audio program that will let you subscribe to our podcast.

That's right, you DON'T need an iPod. iPod's simply make it incredibly convienent for you to take your podcasts with you, but you don't need one to hear our podcast. Just the three things listed above.

The first two of these, are hopefully self-explanatory. The last, espically if you're new to computer audio, you may want some assistance with....

We suggest you use a computer audio program called iTunes to listen to our podcast. iTunes, is made by Apple Computers, and is FREE to download.

Once you have downloaded and installed iTunes,
